yerba_buena -b.jpgMany of us would like to have a good skin toner, moisturizer and maybe something to put on our skin for allergic rashes. A good mixture is milk. All we have to do is to get the casein in milk. Mix 1 part of lemon or calamansi juice with 4 parts evaporated milk (not UHT milk). Blend this and you get a soft material fit for a lotion. Blend again this “lotion” with yerba buena (mint) and you have a simple mix for easy application for rashes. The menthol in yerba buena makes a good remedy for itching and simple skin inflammation. The milk proteins will help restore skin health and of course the vitamin C in lemon. You can vary this to include apple sauce or even aloe vera to vary the use of the basic mixture. If you put this on the face (not to include yerba buena but aloe or apple or cucumber), wash your face and put the lotion, leave it for about 15 minutes and wash again your face. Do this nightly and you will feel the softness of the face over time. This is all natural lotion. Time defiance? Maybe. [note: put this in the refrigerator or it will spoil. The shelf life is about the same as cheeze but do not use if it develops molds.]

    hello dr.,
just want to ask how to achieve smooth skin and how to eliminate or lighten scars.

    thank you and God bless…

    angel

    —————

From Doc Emil: It is quite difficult to make any recommendation on how to achieve a flawless skin. In most cases, the care of skin will be general; use only mild soap, avoid putting alcohol based astringent. Use the lotion which I placed in the blog and that is a mix of evaporated milk + kalamansi juice about 3 parts milk and 1 part kalamansi juice. Use it every night for 10-15 minutes then rinse with water. Take enough vitamins especially E and B complex. Avoid exposure to the sun between 10AM to 3PM.

Taking luyang dilaw (turmeric) such as Ampalaya Plus or Delite Tea or simply green tea with luyang dilaw as ginger brew (salabat) can help improve skin health.

pwd poh mag ask question….pwd poh ba gawin tea ang malunggay as a supplement for vitamin C??? tnx

  • malou nuñezca Says:

good pm…im a graduating student right now who major chemistry in my field…i just want to ask f i can make ‘malunggay’ or moringa or ‘miracle vegetable TEA as an alternative for vitamin C supplement?….

    ———————————-

From Doc Emil: Yes it can be done but you will need to determine how much vitamin C would be available in 1 milligram of malunggay so you can make recommendations on how much to take. BTW, malunggay in capsule form is already available in the market. Making tea out of malunggay might not be appropriate since heat will destroy vitamin C, so the best alternative is malunggay powder in a capsule (same as the marketed form).

  • gladys gomez Says:

hi der…just wanna ask..what are the minerals found in yerba buena?..and who discovre it as one of the herbal medicine in the country?

    ———————————–

From Doc Emil: There are no detailed studies on the mineral content of Yerba Buena. What we know is that most of the Philippine Medicinal Plants’ documentation was done by Dr. Eduardo Quisumbing. These were based, I believe, on folkloric information and (maybe) ethnographic surveys.

  • sarah Says:

just want to ask if malunggay can be used as an active ingredient for making lotion?my members and i are having a hard time in making such because it was meant to be an investigatory project for our chemistry subject.just want to ask if it is possible and what can malunggay give as a skin lotion.thanks.im looking forward to your reply on this matter.thanks.

    ————————————————-

From Doc Emil: Yes malunggay can be used for skin lotion, it can give you plenty of Vitamin A, B-complex and Vitamin C; these can help protect the skin from ultraviolet rays (from the sun)

  • klau Says:

can you pls give me the exact procedure of yerba buena skin lotion? thanks!

    ———————————–

From Doc Emil: Mix 1 part of lemon or calamansi juice with 4 parts evaporated milk (not UHT milk). Blend this and you get a soft material fit for a lotion. Blend again this “lotion” with 1 part yerba buena. Example: 1 table spoon lemon + 4 tablespoon milk + 1 tablespoon grounded yerba buena leaves, mix well in a cup. This lotion must be kept refrigerated and will usually last for a week.

  • drizz Says:

where can you buy yerba buena leaves?

    ————————————————–

From Doc Emil: You can buy yerba buena from the Bureau of Plant Industry, Dept of Agriculture, San Andres Manila but it is also sold in garden plant outlets in the Philippines. You can buy them also from supermarkets labelled as “Mint” -if you buy these, you can try planting some mature ones and it will grow. It is very sentitive to too much water.

  • drizz Says:

i tried this lotion for my skin with aloe era instead.but i hae sensitie skin so i think the kalamansi was too strong for my fae so it got reeeeeeeeeally dry.if i stopped using the kalamansi in the lotino would it still make my face clearer?

  • joie peralta Says:

I wod like to ask for herbal medicines for him. evrtime he scrathes his skin becomes dark producing dark pigmentation . wat is the best remedy po.

    joie

    ———————————–

From Doc Emil: Walang effective remedy na herbal. Taking plenty of water and preventive measures such as avoiding sudden change of temperature -example: from air-conditioned room going outside where it is very warm should be avoided. Some have imporved with turmeric or luyang dilaw tea.

From Dr. Aligui: Walang mabisang paraan para mag fade yan. Please consult a dermatologist because it’s a benign enlargement.

  • johnkennedy Says:

sir, can i make an ointment using cucumber gel , pandan, and aloe vera for curing pimples and other skin problems,, i need it for our science investigatory project. thank you sir,

    ———–
From Doc Emil: Yes that’s possible but you have to consult a pharmacist to prepare the ointment. However, you cannot test that without the supervision of a physician or dermatologist.

  • Abegail Says:

Sir, I would like to ask what is in Yerba Buena that makes it good for the skin?
If i would make this lotion (for our investigatory project), could i just apply it all over without rinsing it? I would also like to ask if it would be ok to mix aloe vera and malunggay at the same time in the yerba buena skin lotion, or it would be better if i will only mix malunggay.

    Thank you very much.

    —————-
All of them can be mixed and they will be good for the skin. Mix less of yerba buena because it’s mint and will act as stringent. You can also use young guava leaves instead of yerba buena

  • joy Says:

    hello, good day poh!!
dr, just wanna ask if yerba buena has an anti viral property?
    thank you so much!!!

—No reports on that. Yerba buena has antibacterial properties as topical.

    thanks!
