    Polygonumcuspidatum

An article on Polygonum cuspidatum, a commercial source of resveratrol, came out in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, June 9, 2010 which shows that resveratrol has the potential to delay aging. This study was done in animal models and in vitro (laboratory test). In general the observations were the reduction of oxidative stress which translates into an anti-oxidant power and also the inflammatory stress. These are the major mechanisms for longevity and stress, and imply that resveratrol can be help delay aging and biological stress. [Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism , doi:10.1210/jc.2010-0482]

To correlate this with the study at Harvad University by Dr. David Sinclair, he reported that grapes naturally produce resveratrol which could fight age related diseases by studying genetic materials and reduce the pathologic effects of high fat diet by mimicking caloric restriction. [Cell 97 (5): 609–20.doi:10.1016/S0092-8674(00)80772-2. PMID 10367890.] This apparently has something to do with the French paradox, wherein French people’s consumption of red wine could explain why France has low rates of cardiovascular disease despite the high consumption of fat relative to the United States.

The Japanese knotweed, Polygonum cuspidatum has the highest amount of resveratrol followed by grapes, and among the varieties of grapes, the muscadine grapes are the next best source. Resveratrol can also be found in other red or purple grapes, peanuts, cranberry, raspberry, and blueberries.

There are no studies that have linked magnesium sulfate with adverse effects on the newborn but studies are not sufficient be the basis of problems in pregnancy and the newborn. Also you may not do flush while pregnant because it may cause diarrhea and co promise the baby. So delay your flush till after you deliver.

Boudreaux! This is the name which comes into my mind when I hear about red wines. France holds first position in terms of red wine producing countries.Speacially Boudreaux region is really famous for producing red wine.Resveratrol is found in skin of red grapes. It’s true that it delays aging and that’s why French people have less cardiovascular disease as compared to Americans.

I was diagnosed by my Endo as having hyperthyroidism based on the results of my tests. On my utltrasound result it shows that my nodules has been noted for calcification and fine needle biopsy is recommended.Ibig po sabihin doc cancerous yong nodule ko? I really am worried. I dont want to undergo biopsy , I would rather go for natural medicinal plants, baka makaya pa. For now, I am taking methimazole once a day.

  • rhenz Says:

doc, a child with G6PD. is he safe in taking Resveratrol? do we have a chance to cure his illment such as G6PD possitive?
    ——
A child should not be given food supplements unless the product is vegetable. Resveratrol is an extract and has not been evaluated for safety in children. We usually assume that. Above 10 yrs old the child can considered a teen and is more or less maturing.

You may have heard of resveratrol, a miracle antioxidant found in grape skins (and many other foods) that’s linked to a lower risk of heart. So the information shared is quite informative.
