Traditionally, the rhizome (root) of turmeric has been used to treat gastrointestinal upset, and arthritic pain. Laboratory and animal research has demonstrated anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anti-cancer properties of turmeric and its constituent curcumin. The use of turmeric has also been investigated in the management of dyspepsia (heartburn) and hyperlipidemia (high
cholesterol).

The recommendation is to take tea; 500 mg steeped in a cup of boiling water for 15 minutes taken twice daily.

can turmeric helps to prevent gout? what about no.2 diabetes. i have been drinking dried ampalaya fruits and also leaves but its bitterness can not tolerate its taste. what about the capsules. thank you. much appreciated.
From Dr. Aligui:
Gout cannot be prevented by turmeric. Diet and adequate amounts of water can help reduce the chances of severe uric acid deposits in gout. Turmeric can help reduce the inflammation in gout and osteoarthritis. When you use diet as a practice to reduce gout, find out by trial and error what foods can aggravate your gout and make a personal list of those food. These foods are to be avoided. If you are referring to Ampalay plus, then you can benefit from the health value of Ampalaya, Banaba and Luyang dilaw without the bitterness.

I dont have turmeric powder at home, but i have those rhizome i bought from a supermarket. How can i prepare tea out of this rhizome. I just usually boil this in water then drink it. Is it correct? and how much should i boil for making a glass of tea? Thank you very much. More power
From Dr. Aligui: Make your own turmeric powder. Clean, peel and grate rhizome using an ordinary cheese grater. Heat an ordinary wok or a native “kawali” and fry the grated turmeric for a few seconds, let it dry completely and you have turmeric powder. Do not use teflon coated wok. Now you can prepare your own tea. Just put half a teaspoon in a cup of hot water and drink as you would take ordinary tea.

What if I just boil the rhizomes (to make tea) and not make it into powder? Wouldn’t it be as effective? Is curcumin from turmeric effective against breast cancer?
