what is water plus?is it just plain water? pls..thanks.
we are planning to try your malunggay juice.

  2. it’s a plain water. I should have removed “plus”. Supposedly I panned to post it this way: “1/2 cup water plus
1/2 cup of chopped green apple or a slice of pineapple or squeezed dalandan” but then decided to enumerate it.

    Thanks anyway! :)

Can malunggay tea be taken daily? We use fresh-frozen malunggay leaves and steep it in boiling water for 15 minutes. Is it worth using the fresh-frozen leaves? Is the tea preparation we use alright?

    Thanks.

Hi Doc Emil! I just wanna ask if frozen pack malunggay leaves has the same full benefits as the fresh ones? I live here in Alaska, and the Filipino store here only sell fresh-frozen malunggay. and also can malunggay leaves helps in losing weight?

    Thank You!

Dear Doc Emil, what I do is boil the malunggay leaves (together with the small branches) for about 10 minutes and drink it as is…okay po ba yun? Thanks. and please, I would appreciate more articles on medicinal plants for diabetics.

FROM DOC ALIGUI: -Boiling malunggay, even with small branches (only the green ones should be used) and then taking the juice is ok. There are 5 plants for diabetes or for a healthy blood sugar: ampalaya, banaba, luyang dilaw, malunggay and kangkong. To a lesser degree of use: Sinta or serpentina, pandan, duhat, bignay, neem (shoots)

Hi, Doc Emil! Is it possible for a single woman who has never had a child to breastfeed? because my friend adopted her baby niece and she’s wondering if she can breastfeed the baby, even if she has been single all her life and never experienced giving birth or having a child of her own. can MALUNGGAY leaves and all green leafy vegetables help her have milk or produce milk? and also is it ok for her to use a breast pump?

I’ll be looking forward to your reply!

    Thank You!

FROM DR. EMIL: Yes, it is possible. A classical case is the wife of the former Secretary of Health (Dr. Elerie Dayrit), she forced the baby to breastfeed by just allowing the baby to suck her breast but it will take time. The sucking reflex stimulated her to have lactating hormone. It is not easy but possible. Taking plenty of malunggay leaves will help.

hi everyone, hi doc emil, I know this is not so appropriate, but I would do it anyway, I just want to ask doc if malunggay would help my grandfather’s illness, I think he had a tumor in his lungs, though the doctor is not yet sure to whether it is cancerous or not, still would like to ask if malunggay and saluyot would at least help him… I am into this product, FIRST VITA PLUS, it has 5 herbs naming malunggay, saluyot, talbos ng kamote, uray, dahon ng sili, with dalandan or melon flavor, based on what i have read in this site and on other links, they talk about each herb and the dalandan works for cancer, my fellow doctors in this company also told me it might help, I’m just wondering, what would you say about the combinations of this herbs, my grandfather is drinking it right now, i hope it would help him, would you suggest to drink it separately or i should let my lolo to continue drinking it… for info, this product was indorsed by dr. jayme Galvez tan..
I believe in the product and my doctor friends, but i would like to hear from you, i believe that this is one of your specialty… so please help me, any comments or suggestions coming from you, I will treasure… thanks in advance and more power…

FROM DR. EMIL: First of all, Dr. Galvez-Tan himself has admitted he is not endorsing the product because I asked him. However, Vita Plus is a health drink and I believe it is a good product but all natural products have their limitations and your experience is your guide in using it, in relation to your grandfather’s illness. The natural supplements for lung cancer, based on traditional data is capsicum and calendula flowers, vitamin C and A. Other support measures would be to completely stay away from red meat and poultry products, including milk. Other medicinal plants for cancer, in general, would be the following: turmeric (luyang dilaw), malunggay, cruciferous vegetables such as red cabbage, onions, mangosteen pulp, all types of sprouts, wheat grass, pomegranate and blueberries (resveratrol). There is no guarantee in any of these because not all people will experience the same results, the body responds differently in every person. I would advise you to make your own vegetable mix juice drink and use green apple as your flavor enhancer. Use two or three vegetables at a time.

    Hi Doc,

I have a parotid tumor, can the malunggay diet heal me?

    Thank you

From Dr. Aligui: I don’t think so but it will help your health. Parotid tumors are usually not cancerous. The supplements would be turmeric, concentrated juice of berries (resveratrol) and Vitamin C. If the parotid tumor is very large, more than the size of a grape, then you can have it remove by surgery. Parotid tumors are recurrent even with surgery.

  12. Von on

    Thanks for the response Doc!!!

I’ve search for a lot of cheap alternatives and i’m on to malunggay now.

What i’m doing is extract the malunggay through an inexpensive juicer, drink the juice with honey and make the shredded leaves like edible tea, everyday.

Last 3 questions on parotid tumor Doc…(please bear with me)

    1. Since parotid tumors are recurrent even with surgery, is there any alternative approach to total healing?

    2. These supplements that you recommend, is there any probability to total healing?

    3. I am a graveyard shifter (call center) for almost 5 years straight and acquired this parotid tumor within the span of my time working here, probably due to a gum abcess or a dislocated jaw (but was fixed although i am expriencing a clicking sound most of the time in the area)after our dentist extracted the tooth associated with the abcess. My question is, will my working in graveyard shift worsen my condition?

I might not get a response with these questions, ’cause i’m out of the topic…my apologies…but i hope, you can give me another link, where i can have discussions with you on this. I am bearing this illness for 3 years already and the daily piercing pain i have since day 1 of it’s manifestation is sometimes unbearable, but i don’t want total parotidectomy although our medical benefits makes it free.

    Thanks a lot Doc!

From Dr. Aligui: Unfortunately, no herbal or procedure can be recommended for total healing. We can only hope that it will not progress to a bigger one with healthy food. As for your jaw, I would recommended that you see a ENT specialist. It could be connected with a nerve problem.

Good Day Dr. Algui. I would just like to ask if the pulp that’s left after making this juice can be used in making soup? I tried to mix it with the miso soup that I made, along with garlic and onion. Thanks.

From Dr. Emil: If you are talking about malunggay fruit, it is best to eat it as is like in pinakbet. But it can also be used for most vegetable soup.

    hi doc emil,

I would like to ask if it is okay to mix blended malunggay in baking cookies and cakes? will i get the same nutritional value as it is used in other dishes? Thanks.

From Dr. Aligui: Yes it can be used in baking cookies and cakes. We assume that for all cooked vegetables any nutrient destroyed with heat will be lost, same as malunggay.

If wheteher it will reduce the blood pressure of hypertensive clients? We would want to include your study in our theories. thank you very much.

From Dr. Aligui: No studies have been done that examines malunggay to reduce blood pressure.

Hi doc, I just had a glass of malunggay-kalamansi juice this morning. I prepared it myself by sun-drying and toasting the malunggay then added it to kalamansi juice in a blender. Before I finished drinking it, I felt that my stomach was upset so i had to sleep, then after around two hours, I had successive LBM. I’ve been to the cr for 4 times already but my stomach is not painful. It’s like I’m having a detox. Is it just natural reaction of my body since it’s my first time to combine malunggay and kalamansi? Thanks.

    —————
From Doc Emil: Yes, it can be a detox but we can also say that you might have a transient gastro intestinal infection. Assuming that your juice used clean water and the preparation was clean, then it could be like a detox. The diarrhea should not last more than a day.

I used to boil fresh malunggay leaves with its stem and drink the boiled water as my daily water, I’m doing this for two weeks now, how much amount of it should i drink daily or is it ok to make it as my everyday drinking water (no limit)?
I have low blood sugar, is it ok to continue doing this? Because I read in one article that malunggay leaves lowers blood sugar.

    ————-
From Doc Emil: Ok na yan and you can do it daily or even every other day, it will not cause further decrease in blood sugar. Phytoinsulins generally do not cause further decline in blood sugar because of the internal regulation of food; it balances the metabolism of carbohydrates. In a study on ampalaya among normal individuals, no abnormal sugar levels were noted with ampalaya food supplements and the same happens with malunggay.

I tried juicing malunggay leaves with my blender cause i have heard that it is good for pregnant women and have read it in internet too. I took one cup of the fresh malunggay juice but what happened was I vomited few minutes i drunk it. It didnt taste bad at all. I just felt lightheaded and nauseated and stomach upset after drinking the juice. Is there something wrong with what i did? What could have i done wrong? please tell me. I was still stubborn an hour after i took one cup of malunggay juice and vomited it, I took 4 tablespoon i didnt throw up but i felt i little weird though.

    ——–
It is true that it taste somewhat weird. I find it irritating on the throat. I seldom drink it alone but on combination with fruit such as pineapple and other vege such as cucumber. I also take only 15cc with other juices.

    Doc gd pm.
I just would ask when is the best time to drink this malunggay juice. Would it be in an empty stomach or after meal? I’d rather do it right. Please advise. Thank you so much doc for sharing your knowledge to us. I am one of your silent follower.

    —————
Vegetables juices are best taken before meals, as a mid morning snack instead of the heavy snacks. If you take it as part of a meal, take it about 30 min before meals. Some people cannot take it in the early morning due to too much acid stomach in early morning. Once a day of 6 oz is fine as mid-day juice.

  22. tessgandeza on

is there an overdose in taking malunggayjuice

    ———-
There is no study on the safety of malunggay juice. However, since malunggay is food, just like ampalaya, the margin of safety of food is very wide -meaning you can take sometimes 50-100x the usual eating volume with no side effects. The amount of juice you can take to be on the conservative side would be just 6 oz glass at a time. This can be 3x a day. Malunggay juice is not delicious, it is very unpalatable so I think it is less tolerated in large volume intake, like 8 oz.

  23. what are the limitations of this drink?

    ———-
It supplements our daily needs, it is food. It provides a good source of calcium and vitamin A as well as good source of anti-oxidants. One limitation is when you take it as raw juice, it is has a very strong effect on the throat, very irritating when taken as it is and at most you can only drink about 30cc daily. Alternatively, you can dilute it with pineapple juice or green apple juice.

    hi doc,

I would like to ask if in making a pancake and added with blended malunggay leaves, when subjected to cooking or heat is the nutritional value or the vitamin content would be degraded or reduced? is it high or low? because I’m planning to have this kind of pastry if possible. I also read articles that when it would be heated y a long period of time more nutrients would be loose. it is true? or I wanted to know if is there still many nutrients left when it is being baked or cooked?.
