    Neem

Now that dengue is on the rise, would it not be cool to drive mosquitoes away using natural means instead of fumigation which essentially does the same thing and yet introduce a hydrocarbon contaminant into the environment? Neem tree or  Azadirachta indica is a popular tree, indigenous to India and Southeast Asia, fast growing, and can reach a height of 15-20 meters.

While there were reports of its medicinal use, what is peculiar to this plant is that it is a natural insect repellant. Neem derivatives, which are generally known as azadirachtin can neutralize about 500 pests known. These include insects, mites, ticks, and even round worms.  The plant will not generally kill pests but repels them which in a way affects their growth and physiology. It is non-toxic to higher animals and is appropriate to plant in cities and populated areas where mosquitoes and insects.

Let’s stop fumigations but plant neem trees which would be beneficial to the environment.

doc. how true na herbal din po ito neem tree san po ba mabisa ito?

Some people have used the young leaves (tips of the branch) for diabetes and hypertension but no extensive scientific documentation is available. Neem tree is a medicinal plant in Ayurvedic medicine with many uses. I would suggest you locate the web information by google and decide. For me, I would still have to see the toxic limits of the plant because it has natural insecticidal properties, so be careful how you use it.

Campaign launched at 18:00 CET on April 28 2011
The EU has just blocked our access to many herbal medicines, and already some household remedies are being taken off the shelves.

A new EU Directive came into force this week that erects high barriers to any herbal remedy that hasn’t been on the market for 30 years — including virtually all Chinese, Ayurvedic, and African traditional medicine. The EU Commission itself has recognised this is an over-regulation that will needlessly restrict consumer choice, but has done nothing to change it.
